Cover letters

I feel like I struggle the most with the cover letters. I feel like I got the skills and expertise for the jobs that I apply for, and my CV looks okay too but it is the cover letters where I fall short. I try to write a fresh one for each position but I feel like this is where I struggle the most. I wonder how much our cover letters matter as they are the hardest part and something I really struggle with, even though writing research journal papers and dissertation was never that much of a struggle as this is.. and no, there is nobody in my life who can help out
