I work in a role supporting salespeople, who for the most part are professional.
Today, I had my first experience being yelled at by a salesperson who was unhappy with not getting the accounts he wanted. He kept trying to blame me even though it was out of my hands. He threatened to quit and yelled at me for not responding to my Slacks on a different matter (that was completely my fault and I apologized to him for it -- he slacks me before I wake up and I forget to reply after checking my messages in bed first thing after I wake up). He attacked me for being a millennial who ignores his messages even though it was an honest mistake and completely unrelated to the current issue.
After half an hour of this and trying to calm him down, I finally shut down and stopped responding because I was trying not to cry. He could tell I was upset and tearing up because his tone softened up.
Any advice on how I should treat situations like this in the future? I feel so dejected and unmotivated now.
