Should I accept a new job that pays significantly less than my old one?

I was just laid off at the end of 2020, and have been unemployed for just over two weeks. However, an affiliate organization to the one I worked for reached out to me with a job offer based on my reputation at the one I used to work for.

The problem is that this position pays 12k less than my previous job. It's a similar kind of role to my previous one, but seems like it may be lower level. I tried negotiating on salary, but was eventually told by the HR manager that they wouldn't budge on it.

I'm very conflicted as to whether I should take this job. On one hand, part of me wants to take it so I'm no longer unemployed, and I could look for another job while working the new one.

On the other hand, accepting the new position feels like a step back for me career wise, and feels demeaning since I would be doing a very similar type of work (and likely similar work load/stress level) for significantly less pay. I'm also living with family at the moment and have considerable savings, and I don't have to worry about making huge rent payments every month.

What should I do?
