In October I posted here that after 6 months working in what I thought was my dream job, I was fired. Having never been terminated before, combined with COVID and the stress that brought, I think it's easy to say that it was the lowest I'd ever been in my life.
On Monday I start a new job back in the field I graduated with my Masters Degree, making $15,000 per year more than I was making in my previous position in my "dream field of work", with a significantly smaller commute, and doing something I'm really interested in! It felt weird and a bit embarrassing to tell friends and family what was supposed to be the good news because I'd spent so much time telling them I got my dream job 6 months ago. But no feeling will overcome the one of joy I had in accepting the position, and the excitement I feel to get back to work. I was able to spend valuable time with my 15 month old son, and I got the holidays off of work. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Maybe this is one of those times. Rest assured I'll take everything I've learned with me into this new, exciting, more lucrative role!
I want to thank so many of the redditors in this thread for the emotional support they showed me when I was at my lowest. I never, ever thought I'd need the reassurance and approval of strangers, but here we are. I had one person reach out in private message and he offered up so many great words of encouragement. I can't honestly thank you all enough.
To anyone that got fired today, yesterday, last week, month, or year; DO NOT GIVE UP! KEEP WORKING HARD. KEEP LOOKING. YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING FOR YOU. Reach out to me on PM if you need words of encouragement or just someone to listen to you complain.
Cheers!
