So , I reached out to one of my supervisors last month requesting I become FT (WFH job) so I don’t have to keep getting extra jobs, especially bc I just got into grad school (1 course every 7 weeks, online) and don’t have time for more than the two jobs I have now. She said she’d pass the info to our hiring supervisor and see what’s up.
Our hiring supervisor then sent out a blast email saying we have FT positions available and to reply if we’re interested. Obviously I replied, and she texted me saying all the supervisors are happy I’m interested and she’ll talk to the boss lady and have an answer by 1/27.
Now. I done went and applied for a new job smh. I don’t know why bc I didn’t want to increase my workload exponentially by getting a third job smh but I couldn’t help myself and just did it. I received a call and set up an interview for this Thursday. I assume I’ll hear back from my interviewer before hearing about the FT position, so I have some time to consider my options, but the new job will pay more, so I want to take it.
How do I handle this? I’ve considered saying I realize I don’t feel ready for FT yet and want to better my performance first. (This is true. In the email, they gave the criteria for FT and I literally laughed to myself that I wouldn’t even be considered). Also, I reached out to them about a week ago requesting more training on one of the main functions of my job. So maybe I can say, until I feel more comfortable handling that part I’d like to remain part-time? I’ve also thought about saying my grad school is offering livestream classes during the week for those who are interested, so I’ve decided to keep this position PT.
Is it bad that my first reactions are always to come up with a good lie smh..? Anyway, how do I handle this?
Edit: I’m rereading my post and want to clarify that asking for more training was not because my performance is bad by any means, but just want to develop my skill set more and not get so afraid when I’m tasked with this particular assignment.
