My boyfriend is a senior software engineer at one of the FAANG companies in the bay area. He is most likely the most senior software engineer on his team, although they aren't allowed to tell each other their rank. Part of his requirements as a senior level engineer is that he is supposed to do inter-departmental outreach. However, he does not feel confident in his people skills and doesn't think that anyone on the research team will want to use this certain kind of software, and that his manager has given him this task potentially to try and push him out. However, he is a very dedicated person who works around the clock and takes his job very seriously, and I think he just lacks confidence about this one thing (and he's not even awkward! He just thinks he is). Is there anything that you would say to him to make him feel better about the whole thing?
