Asking for a remote full time transfer - how do I go about it?

Hi everyone. I'm in a senior management role with work that I like and a team that I like working with (not love, but I can work here at least for a few more years). My parents and my wife's parents are in another city/state, and with a baby, my wife and I want to move back (our lease ends in the Fall). It's worth noting that the nearby city does hold another one of our offices. Do you have any suggestions on how to bring this up, what to say, and when to say it? My backup plan would be to start searching for jobs in that state -- if this was the case, when would I start searching?
