Planning to work in the summer

I’m 14, but my school allows a work permit in which you need a job offer. I know it’s early (here it’s almost winter), but I want to be prepared. I know almost nothing about working. Do I apply to a store and then interview in person? Do I apply to multiple places at the same time?
