I was reflecting on my last few jobs and in 2018 I had a receptionist job. I guess one of the older women came to my manager and asked if I ever smile. I made an effort to smile more, but I must have had an off day months later, because two women on the floor came to my manager/coworker and said I looked “vacant.” I then saw that the two women sat next to each other. This ultimately led me to getting fired because they didn’t want to train me to be smiley.
I thought it was odd that it’s mainly women that would do this, and that they would even care. However, I think it might be because I am attractive and they are very insecure and thought I was mean?
When I talk to new employers or to new people they always say that’s really weird and they don’t see it at all.
