I'm a new grad interviewing for my first job out of university. After months of getting no call backs, I received interviews from 2 companies last week for full time positions, both starting in January.
I interviewed with Company 1 last Thursday and Company 2 the following Monday. An hour after my interview with C2 on Monday, I received an offer from C1. I thought I'd bombed my interview for C2, so I verbally accepted the offer for C1 and I received an employment contract from them today. However, this morning C2 offered me a second round interview for tomorrow.
Although C1 seems like a good place to work, C2 is more appealing to me for various reasons. It's more competitive to get the position and I think there's a low-ish chance I'll actually get it, so I don't want to mess up the current job offer I have. I'll have to pass 3 rounds of interviews to get C2, and it'll probably take a week to know if I even passed round 2.
How do I go about navigating this? I'm planning on interviewing with C2 tomorrow. Should I sign the employment contract for C1 to avoid sending off red flags to them, or hold back on signing it until I know where I stand in C2's interview process? C1 is very small (~7 employees), they have been very kind and enthusiastic towards me, and I feel horrible going behind their backs when they might not have the same resources as a larger firm. I want to minimize bridges burned, as the industry in the city where I'm being hired is pretty small and I'm worried it'll come back to me somehow in the future. Thanks in advance!
