Hello, I am in a predicament and would appreciate some advice. I've been working in a public sector role in a large municipality for about a year. This is after holding multiple roles in another municipality for the last 5+ years. My current role is full-time permanent, benefits, pension, etc. I'm also currently working from home.
However the work is a little dry and repetitive. The team is great and supportive, but in the short term I feel like growth is limited and I'm not fully using my skills, however, there are many opportunities as it's a large municipality with various postings every month related to my work (e.g. policy and research). I've even applied internally and am waiting for the postings to close/recruiting process to start.
For the last month or so I've interviewed at a few other municipalities for more senior roles, and received a call from HR a few hours after one interview late last week. They want to go ahead with a reference check and since then I've been mulling it over but leaning towards going through with it. The problem is that this new role is a temporary contract for a year, but is about $22k more than my current position. I'd be losing the security of a full time position, but doing more work aligned to my interests and skills. HR said there's always the possibility it could become permanent but there's still that degree of uncertainty. Part of me also feels like I'm chasing the title, but only because that title (senior policy advisor) would add a bit of "strength" to my resume and open new doors.
So in a nutshell, do I stay put or take the leap? I'm also hesitant about reaching out to my manager as it's going to get really busy over the next few months and would feel a little guilty (although I have no reason to be loyal to them and it's all about what's best for me).
Any advice on my situation would be greatly appreciated.
Tldr; stay in current full time permanent role or accept a year contract in a position that's a "step up"?
