I've been doing software development work for a few clients, but that work has ran out for now. I'm also living in a tent in the mountains and deserts using cellular for internet.
I had been applying for jobs a few months back and I've had to pass on an interview because I couldn't do a web conference. My upload speed sucks and I gots me no web cam. So I quit looking and then stumbled upon dev work to pay for food/gas.
FF to a week ago and I started applying for remote jobs. I'll be out of food in 1.5 weeks. I thought I'd just buy a cheap webcam, do the web conference interview and let it fail. The generator is running 20' a way, my overclocked PC is just as loud as the generator, my tent walls are probably not what they had in mind for a house and the wind blows like a mutherfucker at times moving the walls and making it uncomfortable. I just don't care, as long as I'm making an effort to get a job.
I received an interview request. Great, but its a web conference. I look within 150 miles of me and there are no web cams for sale and I can't get one shipped to me until next year. Last time I hit the web conference request, I just made up a lie. But I'm looking at death pretty soon if I don't get money to buy basic things like food, water and gas so I'm looking to Reddit for some advice on how to handle this instead of just declining the interview (which I probably would fail in-person anyway as I normally do). Any suggestions?
