So I'm currently in a predicament and I'm not really sure about my options going forward. I am 26 years old, received my bachelors degree in Econ with a concentration in Comp Sci in 2017, and immediately after I graduated I started working at a small insurance company as a SQL Developer. Everything was fine there, until covid happened and I got laid off along with 20 percent of the company (this happened in march of 2020). I got a new job at a financial institution as a higher level administrator analyst, that pretty much shares the responsibilities of a full stack Business Intelligence analyst. I am responsible for the extraction, transformation , and loading of the relevant data from our different systems, along with querying, reporting and analyzing the data to help solve our business problems. I am also on the advisory board for the information system department where I approve/deny my own projects, and I have a lot of say in that regard. In terms of the responsibilities and the actual job, its challenging and great for my career...but everything else sucks.
I was told by a recruiter that has worked at with this company in the past that they purposefully decided to pay someone less for this role due to covid, and wanted someone younger who could learn things along the way, something that I thought was great. He had told me that scores of people had interviewed, but ended up turning the job down. Well since I started in the summer, its been abosolute hell. Just an absolutely abusive environment, the entire management is political and very one sided...I had an analyst who literally dropped from a zoom meeting in my 3rd week because I had trouble explaining a topic that was new. People get calls to check on things saturday when we don't work, but the ones who do extra stuff like that are viewed a little better in the eyes of management who play favorites. They also don't believe covid exists and I had to come in during the pandemic. There are so many things to complain about....but I just want to leave. This job is destroying any semblance of mental health I had and idk how much longer I can take it. The only problem is that I have only been here for 6 months. I know its not a good idea to job search now, one because it is deemed unprofessional to leave after only 6 months, but two, I understand how the employment situation is due to the pandemic. Once covid clears up, should I make a run for it, or am I stuck for 1-1.5 years because of it being unprofessional to leave that soon?
