I stock shelves at a grocery store. It was my first job I ever got when I was 17. I only work part time (evenings during the week and during the day on Saturday). I actually enjoy it believe it or not and I’ve made some great friends at this job. The problem is that the pay is terrible which is why I don’t do full time there (I’m also not sure that they would let me even if I wanted to). Anyway I’m trying to get a full time job during the day Monday-Friday that pays decent (I don’t need to be rich, just enough to one day get my own place and get by). But I’m going to be honest, I have 0 idea what I’m interested in and have no idea what type of job to get. My only experience is stocking shelves at a grocery store which i know isn’t very appealing to many employers. I’ve tried applying at hardware stores, warehouse jobs, ups, fedex, almost none have called me (I assume because of my lack of experience) and the only ones that did basically wanted my whole life to revolve around their job (must be available any time of day, any day of the week) which I can’t do because of my grocery store job. Am I being unreasonable with this? I didn’t think it would be so hard to find a full time job that just requires early morning to afternoon availability Monday-Friday. Should I just take a job that I don’t know if I’ll even like or not and quit the job that I do like even tho it’s part time with a reasonably flexible schedule? I’m only 18 btw and still live with my dad so it’s not like I’m in danger of going homeless. My parents are pretty supportive and keep telling me a job with the hours I need will come along but I’m starting to lose hope. All I do when I’m not working is sit around and wait to go to work it’s driving me crazy. The other guys I work with are going to college/trade schools but I’m not a school guy. I just feel so lost.
