After 500-600 applications: I got a job

My Background: Finance/Risk Management

Applying since: Jan 2020 until the start of Pandemic lockdowns. An offer was pulled due to economic shutdowns.

Applications: 500-600. I live in a city where theres a lot of competition and lots of unemployment, so its a big numbers game or you need to know someone that can get in your resume.

Total Offers and Interviews: Between September 2020 and now it got really busy application wise. 15 interviews turned into 3 offers. Not counting one from my old workplace, who wanted me to return but I had to decline.

How I got this job: Applied online

Interview Process: 1 screening interview, and 1 with the Manager. Very easy. Took a few days for a background check and recieved the offer.

The new job: Systems Analyst. This gets me off my career path in Finance. Finance people made it much harder for me, too many stages, tests and ghosting. Tech people werent as picky in my interview experience, and are better to communicate with.

How I handled unemployment during the pandemic:

I just kept my physical and mental health in check for the whole year. Kept active, played sports, read my comic books, played video games, and learned new skills that would help me in my next role. Changed my diet. I had to say no to a lot of friends, since it can get expensive hanging out when you got no money coming in.

Reddit helped me a lot. There are a fantastic bunch of people in here who helped me stay motivated and knowledgeable.

Resume: Sheets and Giggles format off of reddit. Google it, this helped me a TON.
