A week ago I was interviewed by a korean company and I seemed to have gotten along well with everyone I encountered during the process and they gave me really good feedback, after the final interview I was informed of a background check and I agreed and said it was okay.
They did not ask if I had lived in another country or anything so I didnt think of disclosing that I studied for a short language course in the US since it didn't have anything to do with the job and it was less than a year.
Unfortunately during that time I had dated someone with BPD and when things went sour after he had hit me, I left him and he filed for a restraining order, he was only granted a TRO and the case was dropped when he didn't show up, I only became aware of it after a friend told me he was bragging about it.
Its been playing in my mind that they had found out about this Temporary Restraining Order and didn't give me a chance to explain and just took it as it is.
The documents I saw (theyre only available at the court website not able to come up on a Google search) regarding the order only had my first and last name which is a pretty common name Asian in the US. Although I never saw the confidential clets form that he had filled out but I assume it only had my first and last name too.
I'm from Singapore and I'm deeply bothered that this may have just ruined my life, I've stopped applying to jobs because of this and am scared that this will forever cause a negative impact on me.
