Is resigning from a position you just got and re-applying to the same company for another position doable?

As the title mentioned, say I’ve been working at a position for 4 years, and I interview for a management position. I get the position and work in this position for say about a month, but another position I had been hoping for comes up. Obviously there is likely a policy preventing you from job hopping after being in a new position for a short time, but is the “work around” to resign from the company then reapply to the job that has come up in the same company? Has anyone done this?
