How should I go about finding a part-time job as a student amidst the pandemic?

tl;dr title. I’m a first year university student, I have volunteering experience from high school but I actually don’t have real work experience. With that being said, and as much as I’m ashamed to say this, I don’t even know how to get a job in the first place... do I walk into establishments and simply ask if they’re hiring, and hand the manager my resume? Is looking for jobs online on websites like indeed unreliable? If so, how would I go about applying for part time jobs amidst a pandemic? Thanks
