I don’t know where to start— maybe I just need to vent and life will look better? I’m over 50, single female living in the center of the US- Iowa — small town to boot. I’ve worked for ~20 years for the same midsize (~3000 employees nation wide) company doing collections. I have an Associate degree in basket weaving but lots of work experience. Was laid off a few weeks ago and thankfully, received a small bonus that will help for a bit. I have been applying for jobs, 10-12 per day and am not getting any interviews. I tell all my family I’m okay but to be honest, I’m scared. I’m anxious. I feel so worried I won’t find work or will have to accept a job that I won’t be able to pay my bills. I’ve revamped my resume so many times. Just when I think it looks good, a recruiter or hiring person suggests I make updates. I just can’t please anyone!
So many things going through my head too. Maybe I should go back to college? Maybe I should change “careers” and look for a lower paying job? How do you know when to take just any job ? What if you take a job and your dream job is offered within a short time? Is it right to leave the 1st job short handed? What if I can’t even land a simple job? So many more questions and ideas floating in my head which doesn’t help at all. I’m all alone. I’m the only one who can help me. I’m just tired all the time. I wish I had someone who would listen, let me cry, let me scream, not let me give up on myself.
