Here's my issue: There's a company hiring for two very different positions and I am considering applying to both. Of course I would submit a separate cover letter for each.
My most previous experience involved being an event manager at a company that served people with disabilities, which is pretty far from both.
One is a job as a photographer. Photography was a hobby of mine for years, and I was pretty good at it. I took a lot of photography classes in college, but never graduated. As far as professional experience, I was a school portrait photographer for one season. So, not a lot of professional experience, but I could put together a personal portfolio and have an older but still decent DSLR and know my way around Photoshop/Lightroom. This job is the one I want most, it pays well and seems like a lot of fun. But I'm probably going to be one of the lesser qualified applicants.
The other job is as an office admin. Offices are boring, but it's an easy enough job and I'm definitely qualified for it. In my previous position, it was a split between office work and field work and despite the office side being the part of the job I enjoyed least, I'm proficient with excel, good at tracking and analyzing data, auditing paperwork, etc. If I apply to this job I'm much more confident in my ability to actually get it, despite it being less desirable.
I have always heard it's a bad idea to apply for multiple jobs with the same company, but is there a way to go about it where it might not hurt my chances overall?
