18 year here who has never had a job. Should I just waltz over to an employee and ask them if I can speak to the hiring manager?

I just feel like such a loser. Seeing how my parents came into the States when they were toddlers and get entry level jobs at the age of 17 inspires me but makes me realize how much of a loser I am. I have many hobbies and I do well in school as that's my main focus, but I just feel empty inside. No amount of good reports of my grades can ever fill the gap. I don't want a job just for the money, but for the experience of my efforts being valued. I live within less than half a mile from a whole bunch of fast food restaurants so I'm thinking of just walking in there and talking to any employees? I've sent applications to big places such as Costco and Home Depot a month ago, but haven't got any word back since. I have never seen myself being above fast food restaurants, it's just that I think what I needed was under my nose all along. To anyone who has walked into a store or restaurant and asked for a job, has this ever worked? I know a good strategy is to go in during week days at slow hours, but I'm still a little unsure.
