After MANY months of looking, I got a new job, yay! My current job is partial remote due to COVID but I still have to go in once per week. Pre-COVID it was a brutal 4 hour round trip commute every day. My new job is also far away but in a rural area so much less traffic plus its 100% remote anyway. I put in my 2 weeks last week and told each of my supervisors. Some of my coworkers definitely overheard (office environment is A LOT like high school but filled with 50 year olds). I wanted to leave "quietly" but now I have random coworkers coming up to me, asking what I am doing next and if "I'm doing an upwards move" which I thought was weird. For me, it is a lateral move but in a different career path but that's my business, ya know? I just felt like it was weird having people say that instead of just "congrats". One co-worker also said "Oh it'll probably be nice to have something less stressful and slower pace" which was a weird assumption for her to make since I only said I'll be working for a nonprofit (very general) and someone else said "This is a hard job, I get why you would leave to something more traditional/normal". IDK maybe I am taking it the wrong way but I feel like I gave very little info to people and they are making big assumptions about it (i.e. that I will make less/more money, that I'm leaving because I can't handle the work load, etc.) or maybe its jealousy/normal office politics BS... its just weird since I have had 3-4 other co-workers leave over the past 2 years and no one made a fuss to them about leaving really, only a "congrats" to them and asked where they'd be working on their last day. Maybe its because COVID? Anyone think I am overthinking or am I right to be kinda weirded out?
