I just quit my first job at Panera

So about two weeks ago I applied at my local Panera for the position of Cashier and I got an interview.

During the interview they explained to me that I would be working in dish for the first three weeks and would later cross train to cashier. Fair enough I thought. After the interview they hired me on the spot and I began training. I went through orientation in about two hours the next day.

Now this is my very first job and I was incredibly naive as to how much I could handle. I asked for up to 30 hours a week, and they gave me that in closing shifts. That meant i’d work about six hours plus an extra hour or two to finish closing up shop, effectively giving me a 35+ hour work week (as they gave me five days a week to work).

My first real training day (after orientation) went pretty well, if a bit stressful. However on my second day something just snapped. About two hours in I started feeling extremely claustrophobic and I felt like I wasn’t doing dish fast enough. I started sobbing and having a horrible panic attack. I went to the manager in training and told her that I was quitting after today and she was incredibly sympathetic. She told me to go home and relax, and that i’d get a phone call later.

Now I just feel like absolutely terrible. I feel awful for my co-workers who had to work one man down, I feel awful for the person training me who just watched me head out in tears, i feel like garbage.

I just need some general advice or anything to help me make sure I never repeat this, to hear any other stories like this, or to just cheer me up
