I recently graduated, and I was getting depressed because it seemed like all my friends were getting great jobs while I was going nowhere. I didn't think that I would have much of a chance as I didn't see any job postings for my field where I lived.
I then saw a job posting for a small company about 15 minutes away. I applied it for and got called in for an interview. The interview went relatively well, but they ended up passing me for another candidate (i think that they were willing to work for less pay). I was pretty frustrated as I didn't think I had asked for much.
I decided then to look up places that were operating in my area. There was one moderately-sized company that seemed to be the most predominant for the city I lived in. They had a "careers" section on their website, but it looked like it was under renovation. I thought to myself that they probably weren't hiring at the moment, and after getting rejected from some great places earlier in the month, I'm wasn't confident if they would hire me. But I decided to send an email through their contact form asking if they had any opportunities open anyways.
To my surprise, somebody had responded, asking me to if I wanted to pass my resume to a senior manager at a local branch. So I did. I ended up meeting with them and found out that they knew my supervisor at the internship I did in school (I worked pretty hard at my internship, but I didn't end up getting hired there because of a lack of budget).
And I ended up getting hired last week for even more pay then I asked for at the other company I got rejected from!!!
