No reference, does it matter?

After having almost 5 years away from the work force being a stay at home mum I’m now ready to get back into it.

I have ten years working experience as a bar tender and chef but it’s been so long since I worked, all my bosses have moved on and I don’t have their contact details anymore.

I don’t know how to start applying for things without references. Do employers care a lot about that? If I’m honestly about the gap in my employment history is it going to be a problem?

I feel like there no point in applying because no one would take me seriously but I’m a great worker and I have a lot to offer.

I would be happy to work in any industry. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
