I am a nurse working in home healthcare company. I’m very fortunate that I’m working full-time hours especially in the trying times of COVID19. I’m also applying to other jobs but won’t hold my breath.
At my current company, there’s always nurses calling in sick. If a nurse is unable to come into work, the company has to find a replacement by calling or emailing nurses if they can cover the shifts.
When I got this job, I naively told my supervisors that my schedule was open. This led to the company taking advantage of this because almost every day I get a call from them to cover a sick nurse’s shift. I keep declining because 1) the location is too far. 2) I need my days off or 3) this was too short of a notice for me.
Is it wrong to say no every time? I feel very guilty.
