How do I tell my not-horrible new boss I’m quitting because I can’t deal with with a dysfunctional team any longer?
I currently work for a 20-year-old nonprofit. Like far too many nonprofits it’s dysfunctional, although I’ve been able to help shepherd in some better working situations. We have a new ED who’s really great - I like her quite a bit - but we’ve got some bad Directors and she and I end up doing the bulk of the work while the others just find reasons to complain. I lost six months of payments toward public service loan forgiveness because of some co-employment shenanigans. I’m exhausted. My mental and physical health have declined dramatically over the last three years. I’ve talked to my boss and she is unwilling/unable to make substantive changes. I’ve been offered a job for a unit of local government that has reasonable hours, benefits, regular raises, a great supervisor (I know her because I used to supervise her and if she offered to adopt me as her child I would accept because she’s that awesome), and meets the requirement for public service loan forgiveness. But I suspect my current boss is going to come unglued. Anyone have a script? The last two resignations I gave were to horrible people and although that was no fun at least I didn’t feel like I was ruining someone’s day-week-month. Should I just swallow a handful of Xanax and hope for the best?
