Hi reddit I hope this isn't too much of a retread of other posts but I am freaking out about a potential employment verification problem on a job offer I have accepted which is conditioned on a thorough criminal and non-criminal background check.
I was part of a startup that folded and at the end of last year almost the entirety of the staff was laid off for cash preservation efforts. In the beginning of this year there was real traction on an acquisition but that died around March and the company officially folded. So on my application, I put March as my end date because even though I wasn't getting paid, I was in the loop with the acquisition possibilities.
Fastforward to today where I have accepted a new job offer, but the third party company they have used can not confirm my employment history because the company no longer exists. I provided a W2 for last year, but I am now worried because I wasn't getting paid in the beginning of this year, they may think I was lying and rescind the offer. I have vaguely explained the financial turmoil at my old company but I'm technically not supposed to talk about the details so I have been pretty circumspect. I am really panicking, should I be worried?
