There is an understanding that most people have that craigslist can be sketchy at times, but often times smaller businesses will still use it to find employees. You need a little luck for sure, but you can find some real gems if you're looking. Often with smaller businesses you can get an interview without having to submit your resume, only to re-enter all the information on it into a corporate system so they can have their automatic filter reject you for not having 5+ years experience in their specific field.
If you don't have experience, a degree, or certifications, then your greatest asset is going to be your ability to charm your way through an interview. That or you can get a job loading or driving trucks.
I personally can't stand working for larger corporate entities, where I dont know the owners and my contributions are nothing more then a metric for some manager to measure. Indeed, glassdoor, monster, and similar sites are filled with these types of jobs, and often hundreds of people are applying. These sites are the tinder of the jobs market; they work for the top percentage of applicants, but demoralize most everyone else.
Remember though, the early bird gets the worm, so check often and be ready to set up an interview asap. That's how I landed a sweet gig after 6 months of unemployment, as a college dropout with little relative work experience and no certifications. I saw an add posted an hour before, that said it required applicants to come apply in person. I drove to the buisness, filled out an application, then talked to the owner for about 20 minutes. They needed someone to manage their websites, and manage their inventory. I know how to opperate the backend of commerce sites, and I'm computer literate and organized. So I made sure to explain what I would do if given the position- use SEO to boost their website, track analytics using google commerce, start a social media account and come up with promotional deals to generate content and expand their client base. On top of that I'll manage their stock and schedule deliveries.
I couldnt be happier with the type of work I'll be doing, and I never would have landed this gig if I hadn't been proactive in my search, confident in my approach, and willing to jump at the opportunity to apply.
Unemployment sucks, working in a toxic unfulfilling environment sucks. If either are your situation, like it was mine, then I wish you the best and send good vibes. Get after it, because who knows what's gonna pop up, you just need to be ready for whatever it is.
