Just a rant - don't care if anyone else reads this, but I feel bad for constantly complaining to my family about this.
Long story short - I'm currently working a shitty job. It wouldn't be so bad if my boss didn't suck (big screamer / emotionally manipulative / exclusionary / etc.). Anyway, a couple months ago I realized I can barely handle this anymore and I need to quit. I know now is a horrible time to look for jobs, but just the thought of me leaving this job was enough for me to grin and bear it until I can find a new one.
Lo and behold, my dream job happens to be available. Literally no other jobs are right now, but that one opens up. So I excitedly apply - pulled out every stop at my disposal (multiple employee referrals - even an informal one to the CEO themself, who's a big-time individual) - and I've gotten through 3 interviews in the last 4 weeks. Supposedly I am going to have a fourth one next week, but the company has been SO SLOW with responding. They sent an update a couple days after I sent my available times - saying that they were waiting for their schedules to clear up a bit. Now, it's been a couple days and I still haven't heard from them.
It's supposedly down to me and one other person - an internal candidate - and I still think I have a solid shot. But I just am getting so discouraged by how long this is taking. I am starting to think maybe I should just do my best to convince myself I'm not getting the job. It really hurts, but maybe it won't be so bad if/when I get rejected. And it's made worse by the fact that there's no alternative job even close to this one, but idk I just have to grin and bear it. Other parts of my life also feel like a failure so all in all, hard for me to have much optimism.
