Is it okay to ask about an internal position I interviewed for after the date they said I'd hear back?

Interviewed for an internal job. Felt pretty good about my odds for several reasons but understand why I may not get it (I have less experience, different department)

Interview was Wednesday. They said I'd find out by Friday. Its now EOD monday and still no update.

I would assume they'd say something to me even if I didn't get it. Especially since I have meetings with my would-be boss almost every day. We have a friendly relationship but not enough for me to feel comfortable asking up front.

Is it okay to just pop in with a 'hey any updates' email? I don't want to come off the wrong way but any answer, no included, would be helpful.
