Is it career suicide to leave a job without another one?

I recently completed some studies and looking for opportunities in a new field. I hate my job. It sucks all my energy and makes the job hunt really difficult. It also really effects my mental health and self worth, which worries me about trying to get another job when I clearly don't even view myself highly because this job has done nothing but crushed my self esteem for the 2 plus years I have been here. I really want to walk away, take care of myself for a while and get back out there again, but bloody covid-19 happened. I live in a country where it is getting better (Australia). But is it going to be a big red flag to other employers?
