Anyone with experience in the healthcare field? Nursing to be specific. Please HELP!

I haven’t seen a lot posts medical field related so I’m hoping to find someone who could help. I graduated a 1.5 ago from a great nursing program, but due to personal and legitimate reasons (nothing illegal in case you’re wondering) I was forced to postpone the nclex until now. A little bit about me: I worked for 2 years as a nursing assistant at a well known hospital in my area in a ICU floor. I do have other work experience but it’s not related to nursing however, I can provide great references. I’ve renewed my CPR certification and I’m working on the stroke one. I speak a second language. I was also suggested to get EKG training but the certifications are actually expensive and I’m not training to be a tech. I do have ekg experience because the hospital I worked at is a cardiac hospital and we had to take monthly ekg test (they didn’t provide certification tho). Any thoughts on that? Are there other things I can do to make my resume stand out? Also, someone suggested not to mention any personal information on my resume (agreed) and just to state “personal leave of absence“ as a way to address the time gap between my graduation and now. Is this the right way to approach it on paper? Is there anyway to acknowledge it in a professional way in the cover letter? Or not at all? I’m competing with new grads fresh out of the program so any suggestions/advice about resume, interviews questions, etc are greatly appreciated!!!
