I graduated in EE last summer and since then have been on-and-off job-hunting for an engineering role. In the mean time, I've been working as a front desk concierge making minimum wage. It was a fine setup for a while - the job is very low-stress and allows me to often job-hunt at the desk during my down-time - however, it very clearly is a position that will lead me nowhere, the pay is the legal minimum, and my hours are starting to get cut back.
I need to find something new, but don't know where to even begin. Obviously I'm still searching for engineering jobs but also need something a lot more immediate and guaranteed.
Ideally I would like for it to be a role that is comparatively simpler and less stressful than an engineering position would be, because I don't want it to consume my life while I try to pursue an actual career. But also, I would like it to be better than my current job position, both in terms of compensation, and in terms of responsibilities - because I know that no engineering firm is going to be impressed that I sat at a front desk and greeted guests all day long.
I've heard some recommendations for IT, I think that has more of a CS overlap but I do have a lot of software skills, so that might be a good spot. I've also heard "administrative roles" but I don't really know much about that.
