I am a 22yo orchestra director right out of college and can't decide whether to make a move with my job or stick it out for at least another year.
I currently work at a suburban middle school that pays pretty well, allows for a good work-life balance, and doesn't intrude on the teaching process, which is nice since administration constantly watching can get stressful. Classes are very large (30+) and the kids vary, but are generally rougher than most. Individually it's fine, but both of these aspects combined can be difficult at times.
Overall, I don't mind the position but definitely don't see myself staying there for the long-term. Ideally, I'd like to do some HS teaching and eventually go to graduate school.
Should I stay at my current position longer and get some more experience or start job hunting for something else? I have extensive experience in both band and orchestra, so I know there are openings for me, but I don't want to spend the time applying if it's not the right move.
What would you suggest I do?
