Is Medical Coding a good job?

I am 25 and work in a factory at the moment. I used to do tax preparation. I want to find a job in Medical Coding because I've heard it can be a good remote position. I was curious if you can study for the exam yourself and actually end up with a job in it (because I've heard that even if you do, you won't get hired without an associates' degree, which isn't really an option for me) and I would like to hear what it's like from people who do it. Do any of you work remotely? What's your daily routine like? Would you recommend it to others?
