So as per announced a month ago, we went into lockdown and my office shut down my location. My manager said that we had three options.. working, unpaid leave, or use vacation. I called HR and they said I could take unpaid leave and that was that.
1 month has passed and now my manager is basically on the lines of harassing me to come back to work. "You get $50 extra per day, you can use that for an uber since the busses are basically all cancelled" when I said I couldn't even physically get to work. I dont feel safe taking an uber.. its a small, public, confined space... who knows if theyre cleaning too.
I live with my boyfriend has his parents are in his 60s and I don't want to be a carrier and then spread it to them by going into a job where I dont need the money or risk.
As far as I know, yes the location is closed but no social distancing is happening between the staff. They just feel like since theyre not open to the public that its fine and we can all work around each other.. again, i dont feel comfortable with that.
My boss is really putting pressure, should I just keep emails general and be professional? I don't really know what to say as a date to return since things are changing daily. I also was planning on quitting before we went on lockdown.. but then we went on lockdown.
I feel like it would be a massive issue in regards to human relations if an employee doesn't feel safe and is either being forced to come in or is going to be forced to quit.. during the time of a pandemic.
I'm naturally a stressed person about this, should I be stressed or just handle it like how I am now? I'll call HR again on the next business day but they confirmed previously that I am able to take unpaid leave. I don't understand why its such a big deal to want to take a leave thats unpaid when our location is closed anyways. The type of work they're doing is sweeping the floors, tidying cupboards etc.
