I've been unemployed for 4 months after getting laid off. I'm feeling dejected and need some advice.
Long story short I got laid off on November 1st and have been unemployed ever since. I'm 24 years old and have 2.5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer. I've had countless phone screens, a bunch of phone interviews, and been on three in person interviews. I have a solid resume and whenever I've gotten rejected I've been told that the interview went well, but they're going with someone with more experience or who is a better fit.
I recently heard back from a very exciting opportunity and was told they were going with someone with slightly more experience and this has left me feeling pretty dejected. I had to create a 30 min presentation as part of a five hour interview for this position and now feel like this was all a big waste of time.
I feel like I've ran thru all of the worthwhile companies hiring in my area as new opportunities being posted have really dried up. I'm considering starting to look into relocating even tho I don't want to leave my friends, girlfriend, and family
I'm so sick of this whole process and this has started to bleed into my personal life. I'm tired of spending hours a day working on finding a job, pointlessly long applications, unprofessional HR people who never get back to you after initial contact, and the feeling of not being good enough when you get rejected. I'm sick of collecting unemployment, not being able to spend money doing stuff with my friends and girlfriend, and I just want this to be over. All my friends and family just tell me "keep going, you'll find something soon!" and it really isn't helping
Has anyone had an extended period of unemployment who can offer some advice to keep going? Or any general advice for anyone whose been in a similar position?
