Who do you put down as references while job hunting?

Hey all,

My boss likes me and I feel very confident that my coworkers would write a great reference. Do you think it makes sense to put coworkers down as references?

I am out of school and working full time at a company, so I don't think it makes sense to put down professors or people I went to school with?

What about friends, my church pastor? Has anyone had their current boss write them a recommendation?

I tried searching through posts on this sub and couldn't find much...but if you have better keyword foo than me, please share! I also posted this in r/careeradvice, but thought I would post here as well.
