Tips for getting an IT job in London?

I'm a newly graduated PhD in Computer Science with 2 years of industry experience in software development. Non-EU, residing in an EU country currently (meaning I'll need a visa).

I'm currently looking into jobs in London. The typical transition from academia to industry may be a bit difficult, but I'm only at the beginning of my job search.

Have you any tips regarding how best to tackle a job search for London with my experience?

What salary is appropriate to ask for? This is very difficult to evaluate, I know...

How long should I expect this process to take? I'm employed until end of June and ideally want to spend the remaining time until then nailing down a job.
