I currently work as a social service director and have been in the medical/healthcare field for over 2 years. I run a small social service dept. at a skilled nursing facility that beds about 120.
I recently applied for an HR position at a small Home Health company due to wanting change.
During my interview, I was asked about my age. Word by word by the interviewer “ I am not sure if I am allowed to ask you this but how old are you? I am asking because you graduated college 3 years ago?”
I replied saying I was uncomfortable answering that and my age should not be a concern performing the job.
This is in California. I am upset that I was asked of my age. If he was concerned about my work experience, wouldn’t he ask about my previous jobs? Not my age?
