Does anyone else get drowned out in conferences/meetings?

I don't know what it is, but I don't get it....if I say something, I usually get ignored. If I'm asked a question ,and give an answer, then it's all good...but if there's a bunch of people talking and going back and forth (think of an online lobby like xbox live), it's like no one hears me.

I feel like they ARE hearing me, but I'm being drowned out. What bothers me the most is I don't get why, do people hear me and subconsciously drown me out like I'm a child? I'm a grown man with a somewhat deep voice so I don't understand what this is.
