Hey all. I recently applied to a position I meet most requirements for. I also have a few years of experience in this particular department and industry.
However, a recruiter reached out to me telling me they don’t think I meet their desired qualifications for that job, but suggested a different open position and asked if I wanted to interview.
I responded thanking them for reaching out and showed interest in the company. I also let them know that I personally believe I do meet the requirements for the job I applied for and showed a willingness to learn and adapt. I didn’t verbally decline the interview but I did show adamant interest in what I originally applied for.
I’m worried that declining their suggestion will hurt my chances of landing a job with that company someday.
