Hello,
I’m preparing to ask my boss for a raise, but am not sure what details or reasoning I should use when explaining why I think I deserve a raise.
Background info: I’m currently employed for a captive insurance agency, and have been for 2 years. I am their #1 employee in sales, and the office leader.
The following are reasons that I believe are justifiable reasons for an increase in my base salary:
-
In 2019, I wrote about $240,000 in Property & Casualty premium for new business clientele (& this is only accounting for 6-month auto premiums and yearly fire premiums)
-
I was originally hired for a SALES-ONLY position, but with high turn-over, I became the most reliable team member, and continued to reach my monthly sales goals while also helping with servicing our existing book of business
-
Along with servicing our book of business, I have taken on multiple administrative job duties, leaving much less time for sales (planning & executing team meetings M-F, interviewing potential employees alongside my boss, aiding in the training of all new team members, created foundational training aids for new team members, servicing policy documents for any new policies, taking charge of re-writing a 50+ policy household due it being our largest client, tracking office sales goals/metrics, overseeing social media marketing/SEO marketing efforts, etc)
-
I’m the only employee other than my wonderful, awesome other team member, leaving much less time for sales, which means less money along with my other job duties
Where do I start? How do I politely ask for a raise without feeling as though I’m backing my boss into a wall? I do not want him to feel as though I’m giving him an ultimatum, but I truly know my worth, and what I’m being paid base salary is not enough for what I’m doing on a daily basis for our team. (Base salary is less than 25k a year)
I’ve never done this before and I just need some help guys!!
