Should I stay and wait for visa sponsorship or leave and find a better job

I'm currently working for this small company in a MCOL city on a student visa extension (OPT). It's not exactly a tech company but I basically work in tech as a "data analyst". My job duties now lean more towards those of a data scientist and I have a Master's in Data Science so I'm hoping to get another job as a data scientist soon. I've been looking around, brushing up my interview skills, polishing my resume, but haven't really applied anywhere yet. My company is preparing my files to apply for an H1B visa lottery this April, and I initially thought I should stay here until October at least in case my H1B got approved.

I've been working for this company for about a year now. I don't love my job, but I don't hate it either. I took it because it's the best thing I could find at the time without any industry experience, and the pay is fairly good, even though I feel like I've been underpaid for my skill sets. For the past year, I've mostly been doing grunt work. I was bored out of my mind and I was outgrowing my position. I'm being assigned to more challenging projects now but with no other data scientists in the company, I feel like a deer in the headlights. It's a lot more fun than before, but at the same time, I would appreciate having some more guidance from someone more experienced.

I've been thinking about applying somewhere else for a while now. All of my friends are on the west coast and I'm all alone here in the midwest. It was fine during grad schools but I grew out of touch with my grad school friends as they took jobs elsewhere in the country. I literally only have 1 friend in the area now and we don't even see each other often. I've been clinically depressed with general anxiety disorder and living has just been hell for me the past couple of months. I don't have any social life, and my work had no meaning. I'm getting treatment, but I know that I'd be happier if I move to the west coast - I'll potentially be paid more, I'll have more friends, I'll be more physically active, etc.

Should I just apply somewhere else and forego my H1B application this year? Assuming the job search can take months before I get another good offer, I'll be leaving my current company during the time the visa application is processing but still not approved yet. I still have my 24-month STEM OPT extension so I can still stay in the US for 30 more months, but losing a lottery chance would be disadvantageous as it's very hard to get the visa approved...

TL;DR: foreigner on student visa. company currently working on work visa sponsorship but I don't wanna stay longer. depressed. want to find another job where I have friends. should I stay and wait for work visa to be approved (around October) or leave now?
