Hey Reddit,
First off I hope you're having a great day. Second, sorry if this is the wrong sub for this.
Title says the gist. I need to go back to working full time, but at 27 years old with a CV with no job lasting longer than 7 months, only one experience of a 'real job' in which I'm not entirely certain I was actually doing good work... well.
Guidance, advice or your own experiences would be really appreciated. I don't have anyone in my life I can go to about these things and I could really use some help.
Background and work details below.
------------------------
Barely finished school due to severe health/family issues. Had to leave Uni due to the same issues + money problems. I've been studying programming the last year (Java, HTML5, CSS), but it's going to be awhile until I'll be proficient/confident enough to actually get a job in it.
(Side note, do not trust the LinkedIn programming skill verifications on their own.)
Due to aforementioned health issues, work has been spotty for me over the years. I've worked in retail quite a few times, but my meatsack craps out on me from the physical strain at about the 4 month mark every time. Before now, 9 - 5 didn't work great as I had/have some family concerns I had to take care of.
Other than retail, I used to do some freelance writing and graphic design gigs online a few years back. Unfortunately, my laptop got hacked and I lost my portfolio. I was an idiot without backups. At the same time some stuff was going on in my life and a couple pieces of my work were stolen. As it wasn't really making me much money, and I didn't have a portfolio anymore, I didn't go back to it when things were sorted.
In my last job - what I consider my only real job outside of retail - I was originally hired on as a Content & SEO Writer/Office Admin. It was a small digital based-company with only about 9 employees, which sold things mostly through Amazon.
I ended up being promoted a couple times (while still on minimum wage) to Content Manager, then to Product Manager. During this time, I was still in charge of all my previous responsibilities alongside a landslide of additional tasks.
Aside from managing the business' content and writing needs (SEO, product descriptions, affiliate contracts, business proposals, etc.) I also set up a new subsidiary company from the ground up. It was an organic product import/export venture - importing the product from China into the UK, then exporting it throughout Europe.
I'm quite proud of this, to be honest. I managed to get European organic certification for both the suppliers product in China, and for our own here. I negotiated with our subcontractors
