This question is really for my mom who just lost her job on Monday.
A bit of background: my mother worked for 41 years at St Vincent’s Medical Center in Los Angeles. Its management company, Verity Health, declared bankruptcy. Last year, it was up for sale and another company committed to the purchase. Last Monday, it was revealed that the deal fell through. Verity Health got approval from the bankruptcy court to close the hospital along with 366 hospital beds and hundreds of jobs, including my mom’s.
My mom is 66 and can go into retirement but doesn’t want to retire (ok boomer). She has a couple of interviews lined up from the job fair that was set up at the hospital last Friday. She activated medicare benefits and will be applying for unemployment. Question is… can she? Is that double-dipping / against the law?
Apologies if this is in the wrong subreddit - r/Unemployment and r/medicare look pretty empty.
