Hello all, I’ve applied for a position within a hospital as a Health Unit Coordinator. The position has some required qualifications. “Basic knowledge of computer systems and strong keyboarding skills (i.e., Windows-based applications, LAN use, and intranet/internet use) required.” The job also mentions a few other PREFERRED Qualifications like medical terminology, and minimum 1 year in a medical environment preferred. Then the basics such as customer service skills and organizational skills. Which is no problem. I contacted HR To see where my application was in the hiring process. (Note: this is a well sought after hospital in the United States.)
They told me it would take a couple weeks for me to get a letter (E-mail) letting me know if I continue on to the next step or get a “sorry we have decided to go with other candidates” E-mail. I said ok, but I would like to speak to the person reviewing applications for consideration because, I normally do when I submit an application. In this case it would be the department manager. The HR lady gave a snarly laugh and told me she would give her my contact info and let her know I called. A couple of hours later I received a call from the department manager, I had asked where my application was in the hiring process, she pulled my name up and looked at it, then continued to tell me that I wasn’t the right fit for the job and needed that specific medical floor experience, a long with previous health unit coordinator experience which was no where in the job posting. Might I add she was quite rude about the whole conversation. I had all of the required qualifications for the job and even some preferred qualifications, but gulped it down and said ok bye. After we had gotten off the phone my status of my Application said “no longer being considered” is this some type of discrimination or be considered a false job posting? What can I do about this situation? My fiancé is a HUC at the same hospital and she never had any experience when she got her job.
