New company may be financially struggling, looking for a way out?

So I left my first post college job after a year and a half. I wanted to relocate closer to family and try something new.

I took a job with a small business that does 2-3 million in sales each year. I’d heard good things about it and was impressed by it when I interviewed. However now I’m concerned about my job stability.

First, several important things regarding benfits and PTO were not explained to me until after I’d accepted. Basically I have no PTO until I’ve worked for a year and no benefits.

They brought me in at a $2/hr pay cut but promised to consider a raise with good performance. When I got my raise they could only offer 50 cents more, which is not what they previously indicated (they seemed like they would give me my old salary back)

Now my boss (company owner) is wanting to cut back expenses as much as possible. He is laying off some workers and cutting back operating costs. Originally our office was to be open on Friday, but my boss decided to give us Thursday and Friday off becuase it was one more day he didn’t have to pay us if he didn’t make us work. He keeps making comments about needing to turn this ship around now and that he’s bleeding money paying workers. This was not the attitude I was treated with when I interviewed and when I started work.

I’ve already started job hunting again. It stucks because I haven’t been in this role for very long but I’m worried about sticking this one out longer. I’m worried that he may cut back my hours if he thinks he can, if so, I definitely can not afford to stay with the company.

If I don’t have luck finding a new job soon, I honestly may go back to my old company and beg for my job back.

I’m frustrated because there were aspects of this job I did like and it could be a good experience builder, but I need to be financially secure and able to support myself. I also do not appreciate the micromanaging and sometimes intrusive nature of my new boss. I hate that I’m job hunting in the middle of holiday season, when things like this seem to be pushed back, there are also very few jobs in my area right now, and I’m constantly debating on if I should include this job on my resume or not
