I'm really ecstatic right now! I've been looking for a new job for maybe a year while currently employed. My old position was something I took because it was good money for someone with only a high school diploma and it gave me the opprotunity to work my way through college. Over the course of that job I've gotten my BA, a certification, and started my MPA but I wanted to find a position in the legal field.
About a month ago I found a listing for a legal secretary on an internal job board the day it was posted so I jumped on it. I got called in three weeks ago for an interview and a week later had a second interview. Three days ago HR called with an offer and sent the email with the official letter once I verbally accepted. The department made me an analyst instead of secretary given my background and goals that we discussed in the first interview (that I eventually wanted to become a paralegal and that law school was maybe a possibility after my MPA which is valuable in this area of law actually) and gave me a corresponding salary increase that was more than the listing originally had and significantly more than I was making.
The relief that I'm doing something challenging and applying my education is absolutely palpable for me right now, it's unbelievable. On my first day, my boss told me he wanted me to help one of the lawyers on a long-term project because it involved plenty of data, research, and policy making and he felt it would be interesting for me. And it really is!
And I wanted to say thanks to everyone here too! I checked here regularly throughout my search to stay motivated and try new ideas for cover letters and resumes and it really helped me a lot :)
